Women Legal Rights & Issues - Every Women Must know

"Mahila Vikas" Session By Ms.Chinmai in "Aadhya- Empowering Women" Whatsapp Group.

I  am Chinmai, from Hyderabad.

I feel delighted to see women excel in various industries, showing potential in every field. But what makes me sad is every second  around the world many women are becoming victims  for various kinds of abuse. We cannot change the world but we can protect ourselves and reduce the crime rate by educating women about SAFETY AWARENESS and WOMEN LEGAL RIGHTS !!!

I believe knowledge is  power . As a parent, wife, daughter, employee and a woman everyone must know the rights set by Indian Government for women safety.

Topics on which I would be discussing for the day are:
·        Safety Awareness
·        Self Defense Techniques at crucial times
·        Rights for Women (Legal Guidelines and help centres)

Almost everyone would have experienced  some or the other kind of abuse in life either at college or on roads or at work place or while travelling by  bus.

General Awareness

  •         Be aware of your habits, surroundings, potential attackers  and             his likely  behaviour
  •         Trust your instincts
  •         Remember -  age and dress isn't a barrier. It CAN happen!
  •         Don't run from danger, run towards safety!
  •         we can reduce your risks, not eliminate them
  •         If we have to fight back, we must know HOW to fight back
  •         So it is necessary to have a general Awareness.

Lets list down few tips to stay safe

Tips to Stay Safe
  • *Have a confident body posture, you shouldn’t appear an easy target*
  • *Speed dial –your personal helpline is a must*
  • *Carry emergency contact information: company HR contact, immediate family member contact, medical assistance number*
  • *Use GPS and safety Apps on your mobile effectively*
  • *Never move out without a fully charged mobile phone*

Classification Of Crimes Against Women

It is necessary to know the  rights

 *National Commission Of Women Act*
The NCW represents the rights of women in India and provides a voice for their issues and concerns. The National Commission for Women Act aims to improve the status of women and worked for their economic empowerment
*Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressed) Act, 2013*
To ensure women’s safety at workplace, this Act seeks to protect from sexual harassment at their place of work. According to Indian law every public and private organization *must* have a women protection committee.
Sexual harassment at workplace includes – use of language with sexual overtones, invasion of private space with a male colleague hovering too close for comfort, subtle touches etc
*Equal Remuneration Act, 1976*
This Act prevents discrimination in terms of remuneration(pay). It provides for payment of equal recompense to men and women workers.
 *Maternity Benefit Act,1861*
It states that a woman employee who has worked in an organization for a period of at least 80 days during the 12 months preceding the date of her expected delivery is entitled to receive maternity benefits, which includes maternity leave, nursing breaks, medical allowance, etc.
Other laws include
*The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006*
*Dowry Act*  *Special marriage Act*

How to defend when we sense a threat ?
Self Defence Techniques Hit Where it Hurts!!
Using the base of your palm as a weapon : Targets:   nose, jaw, throat
Elbow strikes : Targets: face, jaw, solar plexus
Using your knee as a weapon : Target:  groin
Leg kick & heel stamp:  Targets:  knee, shin and toes

Pictures speaks better than words, so I am sharing few tips and defending techniques

Legal Guidelines and help centers

  •    Telangana has a new helpline number 181 for anything related to women welfare, be it issues including sexual harassment, immoral trafficking, stalking, domestic violence or dowry harassment among others
  •     Women with suicidal tendencies or those who are mentally disturbed can also contact the helpline
  •    Special officer's appointed at helpline centre will verify the situation and redirect to Sakhi centers, Bharosa centre, SHE Teams, ambulance services or the police depending on the need.
  •     The helpline will also respond to calls on dowry harassment cases, sale of girl child and immoral trafficking.
  •      It is recommend for everyone to install the safety apps in mobile

And one more major concern which bothers me is Children are not safe as well. Both girls and boys are molested and harassed at times.
We need to educate Children at very tender age in such a way that they will not feel panicked to hear what we are trying to educate them.

Please refer the below picture for educating children
If something  needs to be officially  registered the sections and the punishments are listed as below

we have  to build up our  courage to defend  both in verbal and non verbal ways
In case of any unpleasant talks saying in the name of just kidding or for Fun is not so very  okay.

Warning indication 1 : Just keep a silence and give a serious eye contact to the opposite person
At times  expressions and silence speaks more than words
Sill no change

Warning 2
Convey the person or in front of close peers  in a professional way that the conversations are not  pleasant .
If it still continues the same need to proceed in official terms involving family or trusted means
In every person's  life we come across  someone who keep on troubling us some or the other way.  It could be family members  or  higher authorities  or workmates or stalkers etc.   If we are reacting and feeling depressed by others acts that indicates we are accepting whatever  they say. It is  advised  to stop reacting and find a better solution.

Last but not the least.. Which I say to myself in every challenging situation  is

NO ONE CAN MAKE YOU INFERIOR WITHOUT YOUR CONCERN !!!

if I fear, it means I gave up and accepted.

Give damn for garbage shit. Few people do not understand how to keep control on their emotions. So they dump there internal pressure or frustration on others for small reasons.

I know it is easy to advice but hard to execute. Still I feel it is worth to give a try.  After all we are the one responsible  for our own life!

why I stress on  this is women are facing lot of mental pressure and depression these days. Which leads hormonal imbalance, other effects on body and mind.

If there is a solution for the problem which you are experiencing, give your best to implement the solution  and stop worrying, if there is no solution at all than why to worry?!

If we suffer from fever, cold or any physical pain, our family gets worried and calls for doctor and help with medication. Similarly, why not worry about mental pain if our beloved one's are enduring in their day to day life ?  Is it because there is no physical device available to  measure the internal plan of our soul?

Right  from small children to elder persons, everyone are experiencing some or the other form of Depression which cannot be measure through tests or x-ray scans are through any medical measurement. It can only be felt internally.

So my next presentation would be about " What is Mental Sickness? How to overcome it"

Hope my session for the day is informative.

 Stay Tuned.......
